The Young Musicians Award is one of the most prestigious music competitions in Portugal. The Higher Level category is aimed at candidates born on or after October 1, 1999. Winners of the 1st prize in this category in previous editions cannot compete again, and applications based on the average age of the groups will not be accepted.

In 2025, Rádio e Televisão de Portugal, through Antena 2, promoted the 38th edition of the Young Musicians Award (PJM), aimed at Portuguese musicians, foreigners resident in Portugal for more than three years, or enrolled in national educational institutions in the 2024/2025 school year.

The qualifying rounds took place between June 7 and 13 at Casa Música in Porto, and the finals were held from July 7 to 11 at the José Lúcio da Silva and Miguel Franco theaters in Leiria.

In the Chamber Music – Higher Level category, the 1st Prize was awarded to the Kodu Percussion Group, made up of Ismael Gouveia, Jaime Pereira and Miguel Pires, Master’s students in Music Teaching (MEM) at ESART-IPCB, from the Percussion class taught by Bruno Costa and André Dias.

Also in the same category, the Cecília Quartet won 2nd Prize and the Gnose Quartet received an Honorable Mention.

In the individual categories, Samuel Martins Ferreira, an ESART graduate (Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Horn), from the class of professors Paulo Guerreiro and Luís Vieira, won 3rd prize in the Horn – Higher Level specialty.

In the Bow Viola – Higher Level specialty, student Rafaela Riscado, from ESART’s Master’s Degree in Music Teaching, supervised by Professor António Pereira, was awarded an Honorable Mention.

The results achieved by ESART-IPCB students and graduates reflect the institution’s artistic and pedagogical training. The participation of students in various categories, with prizes and distinctions, highlights the school’s impact on the classical music scene in Portugal.
