The excellence of artistic training at the IPCB School of Applied Arts (ESART) has once again been recognized at international level with the admission of three students to the prestigious Mediterranean Youth Orchestra (OJM), one of the most important orchestral projects in Europe, promoted by the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in France.
Mariana Costa, a finalist in the Music Degree specializing in violin, was accepted to join this orchestra, which brings together young musicians from all over the Mediterranean basin. The internship will take place in July 2025 and will feature a demanding and emblematic repertoire: Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D major, “Titan” and Richard Wagner’s Nuremberg Overture. The concerts will take place on prestigious European stages such as the Théâtre Antique d’Orange, the Grand Théâtre de Provence, the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and Vauvenargues. The internship will be guided by musicians from the London Symphony Orchestra, with musical direction by Quentin Hindley and artistic direction by Evan Rogister.
Diogo Ferraz, a 1st year student on the Master’s Degree in Music Teaching in the horn specialty, in the class of professors Paulo Guerreiro and Luís Vieira, was also selected to join the OJM, joining this highly prestigious international project that promotes the meeting of cultures through music.
Oboist Beatriz Tomás, also a student on the Master’s Degree in Music Teaching, was placed on the reserve list for the same orchestra, which is an important distinction that highlights her talent and the work she has done at ESART.
This set of recognitions reflects the artistic and pedagogical level of ESART/IPCB’s instrument classes, which continue to assert themselves on the national and international scene with the regular participation of their students in orchestral projects of excellence.
