Oleg Gotchev, associate professor at the New Bulgarian University (NBU) and the National Academy of Arts, both in Sofia, visited the School of Applied Arts (ESART) at the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco (IPCB).

During his visit to the school, which took place as part of the Erasmus+ mobility programme and was part of IPCB’s International Staff Week, the PhD researcher and university lecturer delivered the lectures “Chromatics and Painting”, focusing on the theoretical and scientific foundations of colour in the visual arts, and “Chromatics, Mural Painting and Design”, on the application of colour theory in architectural and spatial contexts, illustrated through projects developed at NBU.

Held on 15 April in Auditorium 2 at ESART, the two sessions provided the students and lecturers in attendance with a range of perspectives on the intersections between artistic practice, theory and the built environment, encouraging critical reflection on the role of colour in the visual and spatial experience.

With a well-established international career that includes teaching at various European and North American institutions, Oleg Gotchev is an artist of recognised merit whose work has contributed to the development of contemporary practices in mural painting and the teaching of visual arts.
