On 14 May, ESART hosted the lecture ‘Bilingual: stories, projects and practices’, presented by communication designer Fernando Coelho, in a session especially aimed at students of the Master’s in Graphic Design.

With extensive experience in the sector, Fernando Coelho shared his professional and creative career, highlighting projects developed at Uppercase 2020, the company of which he is the founder. Among the work presented, special attention was paid to the editions of the New Atlas of the Portuguese Language, published in several languages, including Chinese and Arabic, as well as visual identity projects, exhibitions and editorial publications.

In addition to his professional practice, Fernando Coelho has also been a lecturer in polytechnic higher education since 2009, specialising in editorial design, typography and graphic production.

The session, which took place in ESART room 1.2.3, provided students with a rich reflection on the challenges of contemporary graphic design and the role of the designer in mediating between cultures, languages and diverse audiences.
