Since 2014, Tiago Coimbra has been a soloist with the Göttinger Symphonieorchester, since 2020 with the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, and a lecturer at the Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas of the Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco. He is a founding member of the Art'Ventus Quintet, with whom he recorded the award-winning album ‘Swiss Treasures’.
In the 2022/23 season he performed the world premiere of the concerto for oboe and orchestra ‘Resilience’ by Luxembourg composer Félix Turrión Eichler with the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra. He was artist in residence at the ‘Art & Science Days 2021’ festival in Saint-Étienne. Together with oboist Ricardo Lopes, he was responsible for the critical edition of Jorge Peixinho's ‘Concerto de Outono’, a work he presented at Reencontros da Música Contemporânea 2023. More than a dozen composers have dedicated new works for solo oboe and with electronics to him, with recitals at the DME Seia Festival and Aveiro Síntese.
He has performed as a soloist with the Basel Kammerorchester (CH), Argovia Philharmonic (CH), Göttinger Symphonieorchester (DE), Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga (ES), Yakutia Philharmonic (RUS), Orquestra Clássica do Centro, Orquestra Clássica de Espinho and Filarmonia das Beiras. He has collaborated as first guest oboist with the MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig (DE), Orquesta Sinfónica del Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona (ES) and NDR Radiophilharmonie (DE), among others. He was an academician at the Luzern Sinfonieorchester (CH) and a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester.
He holds a doctorate in music from the University of Aveiro and has completed two master's degrees: as a soloist, in the oboe class of Emanuel Abbühl at the Basel Musik Hoschule; and in orchestra, with Thomas Indermühle at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste. He was a student of Maurice Bourgue at the Académie Musicale de Villecroze and in private lessons.
He is regularly invited to teach masterclasses throughout the country. He was a jury member for the Young Musicians Award in the Oboe and Chamber Music categories.
