The work presented here is part of the Interior Design and Equipment Final Project course, taught at the School of Applied Arts of the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco.
My project is focused on Interior Design, with a view to deepening my knowledge of the subject and putting my academic knowledge into practice. The reason why I chose this area is to acquire new knowledge in addition to what I had already acquired, to put into practice what I had already obtained and also to have contact with the public and the space, giving me previously unknown knowledge and helping me to develop experience for future projects as a designer.
With this, as a proposal for the Project mentioned above, i tis intended to design the rehabilitation of a building dating back to the 19th century designed by the Portugueses architetc Raúl Lino, located in the Abrantes área, district of Santarém. The 19th-century Palacete Soares Mendes building, which we intend to work on, is considered a Municipal Heritage Site and, with this municipal dimension, I aim to make the most of public property by proposing the design of a space for Rural Tourism.
This project is also intended to help resolve some of the associated pathologies, as a response to others who want to visit the city and the surrounding areas, and also to return to local abandonment, reviving the historic area of the city of Abrantes. Over time, this building has lost its functionality, i.e. in the 19th century and later it was a single-family dwelling, it also once had a store in an area apart from the dwelling but belonging to the building and in the meantime it is inactive. The Palace is divided into two floors, a ground floor and an upper floor and the project will involve creating two floors with different areas, since on the ground floor we will have common and social areas and on the upper floor private areas and a common area.
The proposal developed is divided into two floors: a ground floor with common and social areas, such as: reception, staff area, dining area with breakfast service, pantry, sanitary facilities, storage and games room. On the upper floor there are 6 bedrooms and a small living area with capacity for 18 people, supported by 6 employees, distributed across the reception, pantry area and storage. It is a space that focuses on the classic, the essence of Raúl Lino's architecture along with more current elements.
