João Delgado has a PhD in Music and Musicology - Performance (viola), which he concluded with the highest distinction, as well as a MMus (Performance), also concluded with maximum classification.

As a viola player, Delgado was dedicatee or co-dedicatee of several works for viola solo and chamber music by the most proeminent portuguese composers, and frequently plays solo or chamber music with several musicians such as António Rosado, Carlos Alves, Morgan Szimansky, Filipe Quaresma, Dejan Ivanovic, Catherine Strynckx, amongst others. With several ensembles or solo, he has performed in the main Portuguese concert-halls, as well as in Mexico, China, Ireland, Italy, Andorra, England, Spain, Germany, France, Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Grecee, CUba, and other countries. João Pedro has participated in the recording of several albums, solo and chamber music, which are played in classical radios throughout the world, and his concerts are often broadcasted on radios and TVs in Portugal and abroad.
He is a member of João Roiz Ensemble. Frequently performing in recitals featuring the viola and piano in the most important national venues, Delgado is currently one of the most intense promoters of the viola as a solo instrument in Portugal.

He was artistic director of the Belgais Centre for the Study of the Arts (project of the pianist Maria João Pires). He authored musical programs on the portuguese national classical radio - Antena 2.

Delgado is guest professor in Castelo Branco’s Superior Music School.

Concerning his scientific work, his main topics are performance studies, aesthetics applied to composition and to performance, and the relationship composer-score-performer-audience.
