ESART lecturers launch international reference book on Design, Music and the Arts
The School of Applied Arts of the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco (IPCB) is proud to announce the launch of the book ‘Advances in Design, Music and Arts III: 9th International Meeting of Research in Music, Arts and Design’, whose editors are Daniel Raposo, João Neves, Ricardo J. Nunes da Silva, Luísa Correia Castilho and Rui Dias, all lecturers at the School of Applied Arts of the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco, and which was published under the seal of the prestigious Springer publishing house. This work is the result of the scientific contributions presented during the 9th edition of EIMAD – International Research Meeting in Music, Arts and Design – an interdisciplinary research meeting held in June 2024.
With 1,450 pages and 105 articles organised into two volumes, ‘Advances in Design, Music and Arts III’ reflects the diversity and depth of the themes debated throughout the event. Each volume, through cutting-edge research, addresses specific areas, proposing innovative analyses and solutions to contemporary challenges, whether global or specific in nature.
The first volume looks at Communication Design, Interior and Product Design, Music and Heritage as agents that energise education, quality of life, innovation, sustainability and culture.
The articles are organised into four parts: Communication Design, Culture and Society; Interior and Product Design; Digital Media and Media Arts; Music, Heritage and Culture.
Volume II explores the impact of Fashion Design, Design Education and Music and Art Education in promoting culture, innovation and sustainability, with the various articles organised into three themes: Fashion and Textile Design, Sustainability and Identity; Design Education and Innovative Approaches; Music and Art Education, Culture and Society.
The various articles that make up the two volumes are aligned with the Global Agendas and their respective challenges: such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), defined in the United Nations 2030 Agenda, which address the social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. In addition, Advances in Design, Music and Arts III incorporates the principles of the New European Bauhaus, an initiative conceived by the European Commission that promotes creativity, sustainability and inclusion to transform society and bring it closer to the Green Deal objectives. This framework reinforces the book’s commitment to connecting scientific research with contemporary social and environmental challenges.
This framework demonstrates the book’s commitment to connecting scientific research with real challenges, offering innovative and applicable solutions that promote sustainability, inclusion and human development.
More than just a collection of research, Advances in Design, Music and Arts III highlights the role of creativity and critical thinking as drivers of change and explores how design, music and the arts can positively influence society, proposing innovative and sustainable solutions to complex challenges.
As in previous editions, the book has the seal of the prestigious Springer, a world-renowned publisher, and is published under the collective title’ (series) indexed in Scopus, thus ensuring the visibility and impact of this work within the international academic community.
With the participation of researchers from different countries and scientific areas, this work is testimony to the relevance of EIMAD as a global platform for the exchange of ideas and the promotion of interdisciplinary research. The publication also reaffirms ESART/IPCB’s role as a centre of excellence in the production of scientific knowledge and the strengthening of collaborative networks, highlighting the relevance of the areas of design, music and the arts for sustainable and cultural development.
The book is available on the Springer website and can be purchased by institutions and researchers interested in exploring the rich content of its pages. For more information, visit: Springer – Advances in Design, Music and Arts III.
