Documentary of “Amato Lusitano: Science and Humanism”
The António Salvado Municipal Library will host the screening of the documentary “Amato Lusitano: Science and Humanism” on 7 November, at 5:00 p.m. The film pays tribute to the Portuguese Renaissance physician and humanist, born in Castelo Branco.
The documentary portrays the life of Amato Lusitano (1511–1568), marked by religious persecution and exile, while celebrating his enduring legacy of Science and Humanism. It highlights his pioneering empirical approach and his ethical “Oath”, a manifesto of equality and human dignity that transcended the prejudices of his time.
The film was directed by Carlos Reis, Isabel Marcos and Neel Naik, with production coordinated by Ana Sofia Marcelo, Carlos Reis, Fátima Regina Jorge and Isabel Marcos.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with the production team. The event precedes the 37th Study Days “Medicine in Beira Interior – From Prehistory to the 21st Century.”
