From Concept to Project: The Synthesis Process in the Creation of Graphic Brands

Cátia Rijo is a communication designer with a degree in Visual Design (2000) and a master’s degree in Graphic Design (2008), both from IADE – Faculty of Design, Technology and Communication. She has a PhD in Design from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon (2015). She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Training and Research in Art and Design at the Lisbon Polytechnic School of Education, where she lectures widely in the field of Design.
In 2016 she founded DESIGNLAB4U, an agency-laboratory where students can immerse themselves in design projects in a real-life context on an internship basis, where she supervises several master’s and bachelor’s students in the field of design.
He has published numerous book chapters, including ‘Graphic-Semantic Expression Map: A New Approach in Design Teaching Methodologies’ (Springer, 2020), ‘Graphic-Semantic Expression Map: A New Tool in Design Teaching’ (Springer, 2020), ‘Designlab4u: A Laboratory of Knowledge, Experimentation and Practical Action’ (Springer, 2019).
Rijo is currently Vice-President of ESELx, coordinator of the Arts and Design research line at CIED – Interdisciplinary Centre for Educational Studies of the Polytechnic School of Education of Lisbon, and a research member of CIAUD – Centre for Research in Architecture, Urbanism and Design of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon, and Chair of The Image Research Network.
Workshop mainly aimed at Master’s students in Graphic Design.
