PICtures FM Concert
On 21 May, from 4.00 pm, the PICtures FM concert will take place in Auditorium 1 of the School of Applied Arts (ESART) at the Castelo Branco Polytechnic (IPCB), performed by the Ensemble Instrumental Practice (PIC) class led by Professor Gabriel Silva.
The ESART-IPCB students will present arrangements by various composers and from different periods in the history of music, ranging from opera arias to film scores, prepared both as solo and ensemble pieces throughout the current academic year. The programme includes works by Dmitri Shostakovich (Jazz Suite No. 1), Joseph Kosma (Autumn Leaves), Vincenzo Bellini (Casta Diva, che inargenti), Astor Piazolla (Oblivion), Gustav Holst (Jupiter from The Planets) and Ennio Morricone (Moment for Morricone).
An integral part of the Bachelor’s degree in Music – Specialisation in Music Education, Choral and Instrumental Conducting, the PIC module focuses on the application of the concepts taught, combining public performance with the process of gathering information and addressing the theoretical aspects. This approach enables students to play with greater awareness and flexibility, contributing to a balanced and aesthetically coherent performance that highlights the foundations of chamber music and helps them to better understand the organology of the instruments.
