Calligraphy and Typography Workshop in Contemporary Design
As part of International Staff Week, the School of Applied Arts (ESART) at the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco (IPCB) is organising a calligraphy workshop led by Zaharina Petrova-Prodanova on 14 April 2026, starting at 10 am in room 1.2.3.
During her Erasmus+ visit to ESART-IPCB, the assistant lecturer on the Graphic Design programme at New Bulgarian University (NBU) in Sofia will present a comparative approach to calligraphic traditions in Western Europe and the Slavic world, combining historical context with practical experimentation.
In her work, the author of the book The Beautiful Letters. A Brief History of Type and Practical Calligraphy (NBU Publishing House, 2023) has been exploring historical typography and, in particular, the possibilities for the digital reinterpretation of graphic and written heritage, focusing on calligraphy, typographic design and its application in contemporary design and visual identity.
In parallel, she participates in projects such as Font Revival, dedicated to the digital restoration of 20th-century typefaces, as well as in exhibition initiatives within an academic context, seeking to bridge tradition and contemporary practice.
Entry to the event is free of charge, subject to completion of a form (for registration purposes and the issuance of a certificate of attendance).
