Gala Concert: Navy Band and ESART soloists

Eduarda Dias and Margarida Ribeiro, as well as Joel Santos and Tiago Oliveira, respectively from the Singing and Portuguese Guitar classes at the School of Applied Arts (ESART) of the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco (IPCB), will participate in the Navy Band Gala Concert on March 28, starting at 9:30 p.m., in the South Cloister of the Royal Building of Mafra.

With the host band, the young soloists from ESART-IPCB will perform O Amor a Portugal, music composed by Enio Morricone, with lyrics by Dulce Pontes and Carlos Vargas; the aria Ave Maria, by Vladimir Vavilov; and the melody Ombra mai fu, by Georg Friedrich Händel.

This event complements the opening, on the same day, at the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora, of the traveling exhibition “Musical iconography in the chapels, churches, and convents of the municipality of Funchal: a look at artistic and cultural heritage”.

After passing through Évora, Castelo Branco, Braga, and Torres Novas, Lisbon will host the exhibition of almost three dozen items with images of instruments, musicians, and scenes that was on display at ESART-IPCB between November 2025 and January 2026.

The partnership between the Center for Studies in Sociology and Musical Aesthetics at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, the Conservatory – School of Arts of Madeira, and the Regional Directorate for Culture of Madeira aims to study, document, and disseminate the sacred and religious heritage related to musical iconography (oil paintings, panels, sculptures, or tiles) present in some temples in the capital of the autonomous region.

📍Location: South Cloister of the Real Edifício de Mafra
📅 Date: 28 March 2026
