The session “Stroke: Ideas for Communication”, held on 4 March at the School of Applied Arts (ESART) and led by Patrícia Coelho, a lecturer at the Dr. Lopes Dias School of Health (ESALD), marked the start of a public awareness project covering the two organisational units of the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco (IPCB).
The presentation in ESART’s auditorium 2 served as clinical inspiration for the approximately 140 students of the higher professional technical course in Audiovisual Communication and the degree in Audiovisual Communication Design who, in this context, will create informative videos about the disease.
The work, to be carried out in class, has the support of teachers Carlos Reis and Isabel Marcos and is being done in partnership with the ESALD team. In addition to the spots, the goal is also to produce a documentary on the impact of stroke.
The initiative arose from an invitation from Professor Francisco Rodrigues, coordinator of the Stroke and Cerebrovascular Risk Factors Mission at the Beiras Academic and Clinical Centre, which focuses on the prevention, early detection and rapid treatment of strokes. In addition to the IPCB, the network includes the University of Beira Interior and the polytechnic institutes of Guarda and Viseu, which join the local health units of Castelo Branco and Guarda and the hospital centres of Cova da Beira and Viseu Dão Lafões.
