This document presents the knowledge acquired over the years in the Interior Design and Equipment degree programmed taught at the School of Applied Arts of the Castelo Branco Polytechnic Institute. Located in Castelo Branco, the project consists of adapting a commercial space into a café dedicated to students.
The proposal for this space is to make it a comfortable and accessible place for everyone, but with a greater focus on university students. The aim is to create a welcoming and functional environment where students can not only relax and socialize, but also study and take part in cultural and academic activities.
This project was designed to meet the needs of university students in Castelo Branco, providing them with a suitable space for studying, socializing and relaxing. There was a lack of specific places that combined comfort, accessibility, and functionality for this target audience, which motivated the creation of a café that could fill this gap.
The space chosen for realization consists of two floors, with the ground floor dedicated to the consumption area, where the main room, the pantry, the toilets, and the staff area are located. On the first floor, the study area, and the office. From the outset, the aim was to preserve the existing features of the space as much as possible, such as the marble flooring and the railings, which are original to the building. These were the main sources of inspiration for the development and creation of the equipment.
This project went through distinct phases: researching related spaces for inspiration, identifying the problems the location presented and then solving them. The development of the layout of the space, the choice of materials, equipment and finishes were the main focus.
