Two collaborators from the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco, José Simão and Estrela Nunes, have been selected to join the Portuguese representation at the FIDEM XXXVIII Congress and Exhibition – International Federation of Medal Art, taking place in Munich from 15 to 18 October 2025.
Sculptor José Simão presents the commemorative medal marking the 50th anniversary of APPACDM de Castelo Branco, designed in the shape of a cocoon – a symbol of protection and transformation. The piece evokes the institution’s social and cultural mission of inclusion and support for people with intellectual disabilities.
Designer Estrela Nunes showcases the medal “Look”, representing harmony among peoples through communication via the gaze. The work highlights the power of eye contact as a universal, non-verbal language that transcends cultural and linguistic barriers, fostering empathy and understanding.
The FIDEM Congress is one of the world’s leading events dedicated to the art of the medal, bringing together artists and researchers from across the globe to explore the dialogue between tradition and innovation in art and design.
